Dance Science Education Opportunities
My goals are to make dance science accessible to all students and teachers in our community and to help dancers have a good understanding of their bodies from a young age. Teaching topics such as anatomy, alignment, biomechanics, safety and impact of dance on the body helps students make informed decisions about their training practices. I believe that collaborating with teachers and studio owners is the key to ensuring a long healthy future for today’s dancers.
Workshops
I provide workshops for both students and teachers in the comfort of your own studio. Workshops can be created based on your individual needs or you can choose from a variety of topics such as:
Flexibility
Training Splits
Conditioning
Turnout
Alignment
Posture
Workshop lengths vary depending on the topic. Pricing is dependent on the length of the workshop and travel distance. Each session will accommodate up to 20 students. All materials and tools are included.
Screenings
Screenings are available on an individual or group basis. Pre-season screens provide teachers with a wealth of information on the strengths and weaknesses of the dancers as a whole and aim to provide guidance for curriculum planning. Screenings done later in the year can show where more focus can be placed in class or rehearsals when preparing for competition season. Benefits of screening include:
Identifying risk for injury
Opportunities to address movement dysfunction
Providing information regarding pointe readiness
Providing feedback for teachers
Helping the dancer set goals
I am available for in-house screenings in your studio on a group or individual basis.
Get Involved!
Want to get involved in the dance medicine community but not sure where to start? Let’s Chat! I am the North Jersey Team Leader for The Bridge Dance Project and I’m always looking to build/expand our team!
“The goal of the Bridge Dance Project is to build a bridge between the current realm of dance medicine and science and the commercial / competition areas of dance - to bring more information, working collaboratively together, into the daily lives of dancers working in this area.”
If you have a moment, I encourage you watch this video series by Mia Michaels for Apolla Performance. The series served as some of the inspiration behind the founding of the BDP and its mission. I recommend special attention to video #3 in particular. You can find the videos here.
Consulting
My goal as a healthcare provider working with artistic athletes is to keep them performing as much as possible for as long as possible. I know that everyone involved in the athlete’s education (directors, coaches, teachers and parents) have the same goal. I believe that collaboration is the best way to blend our skill sets and provide an experience that empowers each dancer to take care of their most important asset, their body, for a long and successful performance career. If you have any questions about how you can incorporate dance science into your curriculum, I am happy to help! Consulting services are available for studio directors and teachers upon request.
